ATS Resume Checker for Customer Service Roles

Customer service is a high-volume hiring category, which means ATS filtering is aggressive and resumes look more alike than in almost any other field. "Strong communication skills" appears on essentially every CS resume — so it separates nobody. What separates candidates is named systems and measured performance.

Here's what to put in front of the software and the recruiter. Then run the free check to see how your resume scores.

The metrics that get you past a high-volume screen

Support performance metrics are both keywords and evidence. CSAT, NPS, first-contact resolution, average handle time, QA scores — these acronyms appear in job descriptions and searches, and a bullet like "maintained 96% CSAT across ~60 contacts/day while beating handle-time targets" matches the keyword and proves the level in one line.

Volume matters too. Contacts per day, queue size, whether you handled chat, phone, and email concurrently — these tell a hiring manager what pace you're proven at. A candidate from a 20-contacts-a-day environment and one from 100-a-day are different hires, and managers screen for it.

Name your platforms and escalation experience

CRM and support platforms are the hard-skill keywords of this field: Zendesk, Salesforce (or Salesforce Service Cloud), Intercom, Freshdesk, Gorgias, Five9. Name every one you've worked in daily. Employers running Zendesk search for Zendesk — platform familiarity shortens ramp time and they filter for it.

Escalation language earns matches for senior and lead roles: "de-escalation", "escalation management", "tier 2", "SLA". If you've handled supervisor calls, retention saves, or mentored new agents, say so concretely — "handled tier-2 escalations and saved 30% of at-risk cancellations" — because those phrases are exactly what lead-role searches contain.

Example keywords to check for

  • CSAT / NPSmeasured-performance acronyms recruiters search and managers trust
  • Zendesk / Salesforcename your exact platforms — employers filter by their own stack
  • first-contact resolutionhigh-value phrase from postings; use it where it's true
  • escalation managementthe keyword that gates senior and tier-2 roles
  • live chat / omnichannelmatches postings for chat-heavy and multi-channel teams
  • retentionkey term when the role includes saves or cancellations

Mistakes that sink these resumes

  • Leading with soft-skill adjectives ('empathetic, dedicated team player') instead of systems and numbers.
  • Never naming a CRM or ticketing platform anywhere on the resume.
  • Omitting contact volume — pace is one of the first things CS managers screen for.
  • One-page-plus of duties ('answered customer inquiries') with no measured result in any bullet.

Frequently asked questions

My employer never shared CSAT or metrics with agents. What do I write?

Use what you observed: contacts per day, channels handled, QA scores if you saw them, attendance/adherence if they were tracked. 'Handled ~70 chats and calls daily across two queues' is concrete and honest. Don't invent a CSAT percentage you never saw.

Is customer service the same as customer success for ATS purposes?

No — they're different searches. Customer success postings emphasize renewals, onboarding, account health, and churn. If you're applying to CS-success roles from a support background, mirror that vocabulary where it's true of your work (retention saves, proactive outreach) and expect different keyword filters.

Do remote customer service jobs screen resumes differently?

The keywords are the same, but remote postings often add 'remote', specific tools (Slack, Zoom), and self-management language. Listing prior remote experience explicitly ('2 years fully remote, measured on CSAT and adherence') answers the screen's real question.
